SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cards have hands full against defending MAC champs

The Ball State University women's swimming and diving team will do battle with defending Mid-American Conference champions,Ohio University on Saturday.

The Cardinals are led by the reigning MAC swimmer of the week, Emily Haifley, who broke the Ball State record in the 200-yard breaststroke by two seconds last weekend.

Coach Bob Thomas said Haifley and the other swimmers will have their hands full as they face an Ohio team that started the season slow, but has quickly gained momentum during the second half.

"Ohio is a very tough team," Thomas said. "The important thing is for us to keep progressing towards our goals, swim well at Ohio and finish well at Miami next week before the MAC Championship."

Coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said the team is capable of putting up tough competition against the defending MAC champs.

"We want to be competitive," Seibold-Caudill said. "We are totally capable of it, but we just have to swim hard, focus and be mentally tough. If we can do that, it will be a tough meet."
