MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards now sit alone atop MAC West

Western Michigan loses to Buffalo last night to drop to second in division

The Ball State University men's basketball team now stands alone at the top of the Mid-American Conference West Division standings.

The Cardinals (9-8, 4-1 MAC), who entered Tuesday tied with Western Michigan University (7-12, 4-2 MAC) for the top spot in the West, benefitted from the Broncos 74-71 loss to MAC East-leading University at Buffalo (13-5, 5-1 MAC) in Kalamazoo, Mich., Tuesday night.

Western Michigan was playing its first MAC East opponent of the season after playing its first round of its own divisional opponents. Ball State begins its own East schedule tonight as it travels to Bowling Green State University (9-9, 2-3 MAC).

Even with Wednesday's classes being canceled at Ball State due to inclement weather, tonight's game at Bowling Green is still a go, said Matt McCollester, assistant director of communications for Ball State.

McCollester - currently with the team in Bowling Green, Ohio - said via e-mail Wednesday morning that the team made the trip last night.

"The ride home could take some time," McCollester said. "But I would be shocked if we didn't play [tonight]."
