GYMNASTICS: Athlete tranfers to Ball State from Alabama

A gymnast from the University of Alabama transferred to Ball State University to compete for the Cardinals, coach Nadalie Walsh announced Monday.

Julie Cotter, who graduated from Northwestern Lehigh High School in Orefield, Pa., in 2008, enrolled at Alabama in the fall. She then transferred to Ball State and began classes this week.

Cotter earned silver in the all-around and vault and bronze in the uneven bars and floor exercise at the 2006 Level 10 National Championships as a member of the Level 10 National Team.

She also competed in the 2008 Level 10 Regionals and finished second in the vault and third in the all-around. She did not compete at nationals because of an ankle injury.

Cotter placed second in the uneven bars at the 2008 Level 10 State Championships as a member of the club team Parkettes.
