A change in weather is arriving in Mobile, Ala., at the wrong time for the GMAC Bowl.
After experiencing light rainfall Monday, the city could receive severe thunderstorms throughout Tuesday night's bowl game between No. 22 Ball State University and the University of Tulsa, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Web site.
With the GMAC Bowl starting at 8 p.m., there is a 90 percent chance of rain Tuesday night in Mobile and the possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall reaching the city after noon. In addition, the temperature during the game will be in the 50s with wind gusts reaching 30 mph, according to the Web site.
The storm system that will reach Mobile by Tuesday afternoon is moving eastward, according to the National Weather Service, and will intensify to severe levels as it travels over southeast Mississippi throughout Tuesday morning.
It will be the second time this season Ball State has a game in inclement weather. Playing in light snow fall and temperatures in the low 30s, Ball State defeated Central Michigan University on Nov. 19 in Mount Pleasant, Mich., to clinch a share of the Mid-American Conference West Division title.
The Cardinals bowl game against the Golden Hurricane will be nationally televised on ESPN and will air live on WCRD 91.3 FM, a media partner of The Ball State Daily News.
