INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Bad weather in Indiana and Alabama has prompted Gov. Mitch Daniels to cancel his planned trip to see the No. 22 Ball State University football team play in the GMAC Bowl.
The Ball State University Foundation had offered to pick up the cost of the flight to Tuesday night's game in Mobile, Ala., after reporters raised questions about Daniels' use of a state airplane as the governor works to trim the state budget.
Press Secretary Jane Jankowski said the use of a state aircraft was proper because the governor would be representing the state of Indiana. But she said Daniels later decided to accept the foundation's offer to pay for the flight as it already was providing his ticket and lodging.
The governor's office cited inclement weather in announcing Tuesday afternoon that Daniels would not make the trip.
Ball State will play the University of Tulsa starting at 8 p.m. The game will be national televised on ESPN and will also air live on WCRD 91.3 FM, a media partner of The Ball State Daily News.
