Blaring music, laughter and the constant scraping of moving furniture filled the rooms of Ball State University's residence halls Sunday as students returned to campus for the beginning of Spring Semester.
Experiences varied during move-in as some students and parents were confused with parking and living arrangements while some were happy to begin the semester and reunite with friends.
Freshman art education major Lysha Skinner's plans changed when she was told she had to move into another building rather than a different floor.
"I think it's going to be really hard trying to move all this," she said. "I don't have a car, so I had to borrow one from my friend. It's going to be an ordeal, everything has got to go over [to the other building]."
Freshman nursing major Tiffany Taylor said she was irritated while trying to find a parking spot. She said the university should extend move-in time to Saturday to avoid the clutter the day before the semester starts.
Moving in was less hectic for some students.
Sophomore Kerri Cropper was moving in for the first time this school year after spending Fall Semester in Spain. Cropper's mother, Kim Cropper, said they didn't have any problems. She said parking was available and elevators ran smoothly.
Students had mixed feelings about beginning a new semester.
Freshman art major Amber Bowman said she could not wait for her friends to get back. She said she was ready to begin school after a refreshing break.
Junior exercise science major Rachel King wasn't as optimistic.
"I'm really just disappointed because I just really enjoyed my time off," she said. "I just enjoyed my space at home, and my mom doing the cooking and my mom doing the laundry, and I just don't want to go back."
