MOBILE, Ala. - An anticipated offensive shootout in the GMAC Bowl between Ball State and Tulsa has been one-sided.
Tulsa leads Ball State 24-13 behind 269 yards of total offense, including 91 rushing yards and a touchdown from Golden Hurricane running back Tarrion Adams.
Ball State had the chance to pull within a field goal after defensive end Robert Eddins blocked a punt midway through the second quarter. However, Tulsa's defense held the Cardinals to zero yards on three plays and forced Ball State to settle for a 40-yard field goal from Ian McGarvey.
Tulsa pushed its lead to 14 on the next series with Adams' 56-yard touchdown run, the longest Tulsa run in 14 games this season.
Ball State quarterback Nate Davis is 9-of-21 passing for 143 yards and a 17-yard touchdown run. However, the junior has three turnovers, two of which were fumbles in the first quarter.
Tulsa's defense has also bottled up Cardinals' running back MiQuale Lewis in the first half, holding the junior to 23 rushing yards on 12 carries.
Tulsa quarterback David Johnson finished the first half 9-of-17 passing for 100 yards, including a 30-yard completion to receiver Damaris Johnson for the first score of the game.
