For the fifth consecutive season multiple players from the Ball State University soccer team earned spots on the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team.
Forward Emily Rein and midfielder Megan Ridley were both named to the 2008 squad Tuesday. The team was chosen by faculty athletic representatives of the conference's universities.
Rein, who was also a Second Team All-MAC player, earned the academic honor for the third consecutive season. The senior has a 3.83 grade point average in prebusiness and tied former Cardinal Amy Holst for the most selections to the academic team in a career. Rein led Ball State in scoring for the fourth consecutive year by scoring 16 points, which included a team leading five goals and six assists.
Ridley, who was a First Team All-MAC player, earned her first academic all-MAC honors. The junior has a 3.76 GPA in nursing. She finished second for Ball State with four goals and she also had one assist on the season. Three of her goals were game-winning goals, which was tied for the MAC lead for the most on the season.
Senior goalkeeper Rachael Murphy, senior midfielder Katelyn Alexander and sophomore forward Jacki Eft all earned Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention accolades.
The academic team consisted of 18 players. The number of honorees is determined by the number that is set for each sport or by taking 33 percent of the nominees, whichever is greater.
Central Michigan University had the most academic All-MAC selections with four. The University of Toledo had three while Ball State, Kent State University and Northern Illinois University each had two. Bowling Green State University, the University at Buffalo, Eastern Michigan University, Miami University and Ohio University each had one.
