The Ball State Department of Women's Studies is playing Santa Claus for Ball State single-parent students this winter.
The department and Iota Iota Iota, a women's studies honor society, will have their annual Holiday Wish List toy drive to serve the needs of single-parent students during the holiday season, said Julee Rosser, Interim Director of Women's Studies.
"It is a holiday drive for single-parent students and everyone who participates will benefit from it, those who give and who receive," said Rosser. "It is an activity that reminds us that we are a community."
Rosser said the toy drive is especially important this year with the economic recession. "I'm expecting more parents to come in because the need will be higher than it has been in the past," she said.
Jacqueline Disarro, President of Triota, said the honor society is in charge of obtaining the donations and organizing all the toys to be ready when the single parents come in.
Donations can be taken to the department through 5 p.m. on Dec. 12. Rosser said art supplies, school supplies, books, and toys are needed, and the drive is open to newborns through teens. Single-parent students can pick up the toys from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 15 to 19 at the Department of Women's Studies.
