The Ball State University women's volleyball team defeated Eastern Michigan University 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) in Tuesday night's Mid-American Conference Tournament opening round game at Worthen Arena.
The No. 7 seed Cardinals advanced to play No. 2 seed Ohio University - who received a first round bye - in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
"It's a nice confidence booster going into the main portion of the conference tournament," said coach Dave Boos, whose Cardinals completed a 3-0 series sweep of the Eagles this season. "It doesn't get any better than this."
Ball State (12-20, 7-10 MAC) was led by junior outside hitter Julie Breivogel. She had a double-double with 11 kills and a match and career-high 21 digs. Junior outside hitter Alisha Green had a match-high 12 kills, while freshman middle blocker Jennifer Boyd and junior opposite side attacker Elaina Kakatolis both had 10 kills each.
For the No. 10 seed Eastern Michigan (10-22, 4-13 MAC) Joi McKenzie had a team-high six kills, while Victoria Randolph added 10 digs.
Ball State's quarterfinal match against the Bobcats will be played at 7 p.m. Friday in Toledo, Ohio.
