Chili and music come together at Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia's annual chili cook-off.
The event is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Hargreaves Music Building's Coke Lobby and is open to everyone.
Fraternity Historian Jimmy Wingett said his committee wants to make the event larger than it has ever been.
"Chili goes beyond music and reaches all people," Wingett said.
Contestants are allowed to compete individually, but the organization encourages teams, he said. Contestants get recipes from the Internet or their mothers.
The first two members of a team will get free admission, and any member after will have to pay the admission fee.
Admission to the chili cook off is $5 and includes unlimited chili, peanut butter sandwiches and refreshments. Everyone attending will judge the chili. The winner of the cook-off will receive money to reimburse the cost of making the chili.
Wingett said in past years the fraternity has adopted a family for the holidays or donated to Habitat for Humanity with the money it raised. The organization may also donate the money to Sinfonia Education Foundation, and use it for members and scholarships.
"We still haven't decided where exactly it will go," Wingett said.
