WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards drop weekend opener to Kent State

Team returns to Worthen Arena tomorrow to play host to Ohio

The Ball State University women's volleyball team lost 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16, 20-18)to Kent State University Friday night in the team's thrilling weekend opener.

"Overall for the match, I was pretty pleased with our defensive effort," coach Dave Boos said. "Unfortunately, our offense wasn't quite good enough to overcome that team."

The Cardinals (8-13, 4-3 MAC) were led by junior outside hitter Julie Breivogel and sophomore libero Alyssa Rio.

Breivogel had a double-double on the night with a team-high 16 kills and 11 digs, while also adding five blocks. Defensively, Rio had a match-high 29 digs, tying a season-high.

For the Golden Flashes (13-7, 3-4 MAC) Lauren Jones had a match-high 21 kills and a team-high 17 digs.

The Cardinals return to play host to Ohio University tomorrow at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink as part of the 2008 "Dig Pink Tournament" in support of The Side-Out Foundation and breast cancer research.
