The Ball State University women's volleyball team travels to Bowling Green State University and Miami University this weekend for two matches against perennial Mid-American Conference East Division favorites.
Coach Dave Boos said he considers this weekend crucial for his Cardinals team that is 9-14 overall and 4-4 in MAC play after Tuesday's 3-0 sweep of IPFW.
"This is a big weekend for us - we play two of the top teams in the MAC this year," Boos said. "I want to carry [the momentum from the IPFW match] over, keep applying this offense that we've been working on for the next couple of days and hopefully give them a good show."
The Cardinals are hoping not to witness history tonight in their match against Bowling Green (16-7, 5-3 MAC).
The Falcons' senior libero Chelsey Meek has 80 consecutive matches with 10-plus digs, which is tied for first all-time in the NCAA with the University of Wisconsin's Jocelyn Wack. With double-digit digs against Ball State, Meek will break the record.
Meek, the school's all-time leader in digs, is currently second in the MAC with 4.93 digs-per-set.
Pacing the Bowling Green offense is senior middle hitter Kendra Halm. Halm's .319 hitting percentage is currently fifth in the MAC, and her 260 kills this season are second on the team to junior outside hitter Corey Domek's 268.
On Saturday Ball State travels to 2007 MAC Tournament Champion Miami.
The RedHawks (13-7, 7-1 MAC) are led by junior setter Andrea Atteberry and senior outside/middle hitter Emily Schroeder - both 2007 Second Team All-MAC selections.
Atteberry ranks second in the MAC with 11 assists-per-set, while Schroeder ranks eighth in the conference with 3.22 kills-per-set.
Miami's lone conference loss was to Western Michigan University on Sept. 27.
Tonight's match against Bowling Green begins at 7 p.m.
