Students no longer have to travel the mile and a half off Ball State University's campus to get the experience of Doc's Music Hall.
Doc's on Dill Street opens today at 505 N. Dill St., taking the place of Mo's Tavern.
Co-owner Mike Martin said he wanted the bar to be similar the downtown location.
He said it will help with the revitalization of the Village and will have an Irish drinking pub atmosphere with live music downstairs Wednesday through Saturday.
"I really think this is going to be huge for BSU," Martin said. "We're going to have a big grand opening, we're going to try to bring the trolley back. ... It will bring some stuff that should be here that just is not."
The grand opening party will be Friday, he said.
Martin started leasing the building Friday, he said, but has been working with the building's owner, Myles Ogea, for a few months about opening a Doc's in the Village.
About a dozen employees from the downtown location worked on cleaning, fixing minor things and painting a new sign during the weekend to prepare it for today's opening, he said.
Doc's on Dill St. will be hiring bartenders and door security in coming weeks, he said.
