Obama speaks in Irving

Ending a three-day, six-city Indiana tour, Sen. Barack Obama spoke about jobs, the economy and education Saturday morning in Irving Gym.

The Illinois senator said many Americans are bitter toward the government because of irrational spending such as $10 billion a month to fight the war in Iraq when the money could be spent in towns such as Muncie.

"People want to have honest conversations with politicians about the American people and the problems we face," Obama said.

Obama also said the government needs to invest more in education and rethink the No Child Left Behind act. Obama said he would reassess the testing system, pay teachers more and assure the act is well funded at the state level.

"No Child Left Behind had a good idea behind it, but the implimentation was poorly conceived," Obama said.
