FORT WAYNE, Ind.- On the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's assignation, Sen. Barack Obama spoke at Wayne High School about topics ranging from gun control, making college affordable, jobs and defense spending.
After quoting King and speaking about the civil right leader's message, Obama said it's the people's job to continue King's message.
"Like King, our struggle for economic justice and our struggle for racial justice are part of a larger struggle for freedom, justice and humanity," Obama said.
The Illinois Senator echoed local concerns about gun violence in the Fort Wayne area among young people and proposed his $4,000 tax credit to those students who enter public service jobs.
"It is important to get cheap, illegal handguns off of our streets," Obama said. "But let me make another point, it is important for our communities and young people to have a different way of life."
