OUR VIEW: Vacation safety

AT ISSUE: Students should be cautious, use common sense during their week-long Spring Break

Spring Break should be a time of rest, relaxation and vegging. While some of you might get that opportunity as you're lying on the beach or enjoying your vacation wherever that might be, others of us are stuck with papers to write, books to read and other such responsibilities.

That's not the ideal Spring Break, but that's how it is. Don't worry, we're right there with you.

For those going to Florida, have fun. We swear we're not jealous. Not in the slightest bit.

However, we cannot guarantee that your possessions will be in the best shape when you return.

More importantly though, be careful.

As college students we tend to think we're invincible, a notion that has led to the demise of many a college student.

Be aware of your surroundings, and don't let everyone in your group get smashed. Having one sober person could ensure the safety of all those involved.

Keep your important personal belongings with you. Cell phones, keys and credit cards can be a pain to get back; especially when you can't remember what or where you were when you lost them.

Common sense, however, can prevent a lot of unsafe things from happening. Keep your bearings, don't do things you'll regret.

Remember, photos and text messages can be archived and used as blackmail.

Now, to the non-affluent student who procrastinated throughout the semester and is at home reading the DN|Online because now is the only time you have to catch up on the events around campus.

Too bad the catching up couldn't have happened before the Student Government Association election. Maybe then there would have been more than 2,300 people who voted.

But, oh well. Here you are, sitting in (insert place you're staying here), bored out of your mind.

Catch up on homework early in the week so when your friends return you can have some fun near the weekend.

Once again, we're sorry and we understand.

Maybe now you can relive the glory days of television and watch shows on DVDs before the writers went on strike.

We're out of ideas.

Sorry guys.
