OUR VIEW: Poo for all

AT ISSUE: Ball State University student steals the show with innovative idea

You might remember him from Vote Bare, but now he's dropping a hefty log into the business toilet bowl.

Senior entrepreneurship major Matt Bare made a big splash at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday when he pitched his idea of mailing poo to a panel of four well established entrepreneurs.

The poo comes from worms and would be mailed and used as fertilizer.

Although there is a substantial amount of novelty appeal, Bare had an in-depth, well thought out business plan that set him apart from the other candidates.

Now, PooYou could come to fruition by the end of May. A $10,000 contribution from winning the Speedway competition will be going toward the launch of his business.

Potential business success aside, Bare has accomplished a rather remarkable task; he achieved something in college.

As tempting as it is to go out and party, sleep all weekend and work a job or two during the week Bare devoted his time and energy to PooYou.

Personal opinions about the idea aside, it's clear he needs to be commended for his efforts and subsequent success.

Bare outshone 11 schools from across the United States and Canada. After getting through a rigorous screening process, Bare gets the glory of being the first Ball State University student to win a business man competition.

Creativity and innovation led to Bare redefining education in his own way with his original, unconventional idea.

Students need to challenge themselves to use the skills they are learning in the classroom in competitions or showcases.

Ball State gives us the latitude and skills to do some pretty amazing things; we should show it off.

We don't need to show off to make the university look good, but to make ourselves look good. Besides, it would help in distinguishing yourself from the slew of soon-to-be graduates in the workforce.
