BASEBALL: Outfielder wins player of week award

After hitting .455 with three home runs last week, a Ball State University baseball player earned the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week award Monday.

Ryan Chenoweth's offensive performance helped the Cardinals in their 4-1 week, which included a sweep of MAC preseason favorite Kent State University. The outfielder hit a solo home run against the Golden Flashes in the sixth inning Saturday that ended up giving the Cardinals the 6-5 victory.

Chenoweth hit his first two home runs of the week in the second inning Wednesday against Anderson University. The home runs helped Ball State put up 11 runs in the inning en route to a 20-12 win against the in-state opponent.

In the five games, Chenoweth had four extra-base hits and a 1.364 slugging percentage. On the season, the sophomore's slugging percentage is .839 and his batting average is .419.
