Stock up on notebooks, pens and paper. Pick up your overpriced textbooks you won't bother cracking open until April. Grab the planner you promise to use but will inveitably end up at the bottom of your bag having been written in only once.
A new semester starts today, and we're all off to a fresh start. Whether you're recovering from a 1.8 GPA or trying to maintain your 4.0, you're starting from scratch. Here are a few pointers for doing your best this semester.
Stay organized. Find what works for you -¡- whether it's a binder for your notes and handouts or a folder on your desktop for each course. Keep classwork until the end of the semester.
Get help if you need it. Go to the Writing Center or set up tutoring sessions with the Learning Center. Don't wait until you've bombed the first test of the semester before you seek out assistance. Make use of your student instructors and teacher's assistants if you have them.
Talk to your professors. They have office hours for a reason. If you're not clear on a reading or you missed a couple things in your notes, go have a chat with your professor. If you can't make their office hours, send them an e-mail.
Set aside and schedule time for homework and get started on projects early. Your syllabi will let you know when readings and projects will be due. Get a head start on readings while the semester's still slow.
These tips and resources will help you stay on top of everything. And maybe if you play your cards right, you'll have a little time left over to maintain that social life.
