Miami of OhioA record number of students, 7,885, watched Ball State lose its first game in the newly-renovated Scheumann Stadium to Miami 14-13. The RedHawks took the lead following a six-yard touchdown run by running back Brandon Murphy with 17 seconds remaining.
Eastern MichiganBall State picked-up its first win of the season at Eastern Michigan with a 38-16 victory. Running back MiQuale Lewis led the Cardinals' on the ground as he ran for 73 yards on 21 carries, and Franks Edmonds added another 46 yards on 14 carries.
NavyFreshman Jake Hogue gave Ball State an 34-31 overtime victory against Navy on a 24-yard field goal. Sophomore Brandon Crawford, a 31-year-old former Marine forced the overtime when he blocked a Navy field goal with no time remaining in the game.
NebraskaA last-minute drive failed to produce any points for Ball State as the Cardinals lost to No. 22 Nebraska 41-40. Hogue missed a 55-yard field goal wide left with 12 seconds remaining to end the drive and the upset bid for Ball State.
BuffaloThe Ball State offense put up more than 500 yards of total offense in the Cardinals' 49-14 victory against Buffalo. Quarterback Nate Davis passed fro 233 yards and three touchdowns as he completed 21 of 30 of his attempts.
Central MichiganCentral Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour threw for 360 yards and ran for 146 more to lead the Chippewas to a 58-38 victory. LeFevour accounted for six of Central Michigan's touchdowns as he threw for five and ran for one on the Ball State defense.
