CROSS COUNTRY: BSU takes 5th at MAC

Sophomore Bishel finishes 2nd overall, earns league honors

Fewer than four seconds separated sophomore Ali Bishel from a Miami University's Laura Neufarth and a Mid-American Conference championship.

The Ball State University sophomore finished second at the cross country conference championship Saturday with a time of 17:38.9. Neufarth won the individual championship with a time of 17:35.2.

With her performance, Bishel earned a spot on the First Team All-MAC squad.

While Bishel finished second overall individually, Ball State did not finish as well as a team.

The Cardinals finished fifth in the meet with a total time of 1:32:32.5. Ohio University won the meet for the second consecutive year with a total time of 1:30:34.5. The University of Akron, Miami and the University of Toledo also finished better than the Cardinals at second, third and fourth respectively.

The four other Cardinals who scored all finished between 18:30 and 19 minutes.

Junior Vanessa Gilbert finished 22nd, sophomore Kelsey Nielsen finished 30th, sophomore Lisa Arrowsmith finished 37th and sophomore Sarah Kehe finished 45th.

Sophomore Brittany Ade finished 56th and freshman Dee Rosenbeck finished 100th. The two did not score for Ball State because they did not finish in the team's top five.
