Strobe lights and red glowsticks started off Ball State University's bonfire Monday on LaFollette Field to begin Homecoming week.
The first 500 people received "Roll Out the Red" glowsticks at the bonfire where winners from the day's opening games were announced.
Sophomore Zach Davis thought the glowsticks were a great idea to add to the bonfire, which was kept under control by a fence and firefighters standing nearby.
"I liked the glowsticks," he said. "I saw a policeman with one in his utility belt."
The faculty king and queen were announced at the event as well and both received their crowns.
Faculty King Mitch Isaacs said it felt great to be king.
"The students are what I love most about my job so it's great that they voted for me," Isaacs said. "It feels pretty good."
Faculty Queen Hannah Miller thought the award was a great honor also.
"It's exciting that the students hold me in that regard," she said.
Isaacs said it was fun to be a winner with Miller because the two had worked together for the past two years and this was the first year they had not worked together.
The local band Midwest Hype entertained students at the bonfire after the winners were announced.
"The bonfire was a great way for students to come and interact with each other and also support athletics," Davis said. "The fire was intense. I think they should continue this next year but make it even bigger."
