BASEBALL: BSU scores 21 runs in double digit win

Cards blow over IPFW with season-high runs and 13 extra-base hits

Scoring in all but two innings, Ball State University defeated IPFW 21-10 on a windy Tuesday in Fort Wayne.

The Cardinals (18-33, 6-18 Mid American Conference) scored at least two runs on all six Mastodon pitchers.

"The wind was really blowing out," Beals said. "We had an aggressive approach offensively."

Nine Cardinal batters picked up an RBI with seven producing multiple. Second baseman Jeremy Hazelbaker led the way with four RBIs.

The Cardinals had 13 extra base hits, with four of them being home runs. First baseman Matt Stoeklin hit his eighth home run of the season to pull into a tie with right fielder Kory Benbow for the team lead.

Despite the double digit victory, the Cardinals did not take the lead for good until the top of the seventh inning. Going into the seventh, Ball State trailed 8-7. The Cardinals then scored seven runs in the seventh, followed by two in the eighth and five in ninth for good measure.

"We started to wear them down," Beals said. "They were guys we should get hits off of and score runs against."

Adam Quinn started on the mound for Ball State. He lasted two innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, all of which came in the second inning.

Luke Behning picked up the win. He pitched the fourth and fifth innings allowing one run on one hit.
