WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State to participate in 10-team tournament

Cardinals coming off first place finish at Butler invitational

Coming off a first-place finish at the Butler Spring Invitational, Ball State University women's golf coach Katherine Mowat said the team is in a good place for its next tournament.

The team will continue its season Monday in the first of a two-round tournament hosted by the University of Cincinnati.-áThe Cardinals will compete against 10 schools and are the only Mid-American Conference team at the tournament.-á

"We're ready for another big tournament," coach Katherine Mowat said, "It's always good to be coming off a victory."

The tournament is at Hueston Woods State Park Golf Course in Oxford, Ohio. Mowat said the course is unfamiliar to her and the rest of the team.-á

"I've been camping there and it's a nice state park, that's all that I know now," Mowat said, "We have a practice round, so we can go figure the course out, take notes and get comfortable."-á

Kirsty O'Conner and Sarah Windlan led Ball State at the Butler Invitational, finishing the tournament in first and second place.

"It's good for the team to know that we have a deep bench," Mowat said. "Anyone can step up and be a leader at any time."-á With the temperature warming up, the team has gotten used to playing every day and is focusing more on golf rather than the weather, senior Kallie Harrison said.-á

"Having more similar conditions from day to day gives us a lot less to deal with," Harrison said. "You don't have to worry about your hands and feet being cold or dealing with so many layers of clothing."-á

Mowat said practicing more often will benefit her team in its upcoming tournaments.

"We definitely fall into a rhythm and become a lot more comfortable," Mowat said.
