WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State in third after first round

The Ball State University women's golf team shot a 315 on the first day of competition to finish in the top three, two shots behind the leader. The University of Detroit Mercy finished the day on top of the leaderboard, and the host school, University of Cinncinati, placed second.

Individually, Amy Roberts leads the Cardinals with a first-round score of 75 that tied her for second place overall.-á

"Good tempo and trust really helped me play well [Monday]," Roberts said. "The practice round helped me commit to my shots with less hesitation."-á

Along with Roberts' second-place tie, other Cardinals placing in the top 10 individually were senior Kallie Harrison who tied for fourth place shooting a 76, freshman Kirsty O'Conner who finished sixth overall and shot a 78 and freshman Melissa Miller who ended her day in 10th place and shot an 80.-á
