While the Ball State University softball team's 2-2 record this weekend was average, one player had an accomplishment that was not.
Ball State (11-19, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) began conference play this weekend by splitting its four games against Ohio University and the University of Akron.
Senior Kelli Jeziorski made Ball State history in the Cardinals' final game of the weekend with a solo home run in the top of the fourth. It was Jeziorski's sixth home run of the season, tying her for the Ball State single season record in a win against Akron.
"It was nice but more importantly we won," she said.
Jeziorski also tied teammate junior Abby Gross for second on the career home run list at Ball State with 11 career home runs.
"It's awesome," Jeziorski said. "I think it's great we can both be there."
The Cardinals ended the weekend by picking up a 7-1 victory against Akron on Sunday. Ball State picked up its other win on the weekend in a 3-1 victory against Akron on Saturday.
"We kind of played better as the weekend went along," coach Craig Nicholson said.
The Cardinals were swept by Ohio on Friday to begin the road trip. They lost the first game of the doubleheader 4-0 and then lost the second game 3-1.
The Cardinals left 11 base runners on base in game one against Ohio and stranded six runners in the second game.
Ball State also committed 10 errors on the weekend, including six in the two losses to Ohio. However, Nicholson said he thought some of them should not have been ruled errors.
