Linden Place resident assaulted, struck with gun

One Ball State student was arrested early Friday morning, and police have questioned several others in connection with a fight that included gunplay and assault, police said.

Muncie Investigator Darrin Clark said a fight that originated at a campus-area bar escalated to gunfire at Linden Place Apartments east of campus.

Linden Place residents Anthony Lee and Stephen Brandon "exchanged some words and gestures" with Ball State University senior Julius Williams and several other people, Clark said.

Lee and Brandon left the bar and returned to the apartment at 909 N. Linden St., Clark said. Soon after, Williams and three other people went to Linden Place, where a fight began, Clark said.

Lee told police he was hit on the back of the head with a handgun, Clark said. Police have a suspect, but have not arrested him and refuse to release his name, Clark said. A single shot was fired at the scene, which went through the door of an apartment at Linden Place.

Police arrested Williams at around 3:30 a.m. on suspicion of disorderly conduct, Clark said. Williams was the only one arrested in the incident. Jail officials said Williams was released early this morning after about a half hour.
