OUR VIEW: Questions over coffee

AT?ISSUE:?Students, administrators need to make best use out of caf+¬

With the addition of a caf+â-¬, Bracken Library has the potential to become a hangout spot. While Dining Service and the library should be commended for bringing in a new service for students, officials need to keep in mind the problems that could arise.

The Bookmark Caf+â-¬ could provide students with an opportunity to work in the library through mealtimes, but there is a potential for abuse -¡- using the caf+â-¬ to spend 36 hours on a caffeine-fueled studying binge isn't the point.

The university needs to focus on keeping the library a healthy studying environment while continuing to meet the students' needs.

While students will benefit from another place to use their meal cards - especially with Woodworth Plaza still closed -¡- they need to be aware of the potential distractions the caf+â-¬ can bring.

Although it could be a benefit to students working in groups, who could share coffee and muffins, some students need a quiet environment in which to do their work.

However, the caf+â-¬ will give students options they didn't have before.

Once Bookmark Caf+â-¬ opens, patrons will no longer have to pack up and disrupt their studying when they want to refuel.

The caf+â-¬ will also offer healthier options than were previously available in the vending machines - the only source of sustenance currently available in the library.

If you're going to take advantage of the new caf+â-¬, keep your surroundings in mind. The main purpose of the library is still studying. Be sure you're not abusing the resources provided to you. Spilling your Seattle's Best Coffee on an original Steinbeck manuscript would be difficult to explain to the attendant at the circulation desk.
