OUR VIEW: Bursted

AT?ISSUE:?Students, administrators should pay more attention to policies

The Office of the Bursar and Ball State University administrators listened to a student voice and decided to reimburse more than 400 students part of their Summer tuition. But that was one student's voice.

If you're going to change something that affects students, do it right: Involve them. Invite Student Government Association members to the discussion.

The Bursar was right to realize the unfairness of the current tuition calculating system - students had been overcharged for the past several years.

But the original oversight in the system shows that university administrators need to pay closer attention to what they're doing to students. This inequity should have been recognized sooner.

At the same time, students should have express their concerns with the charges sooner.

If students don't read the material they receive from the Bursar, other problems could arise. For example, you might have an unpaid parking ticket, so a traffic and safety hold might be put on your Fall classes. You won't know unless you check.

The bureaucracy that is Ball State serves more than 20,000 students. It's the administration's job to make sure everything is running smoothly. However, as students, it's ours as well.

If everyone pays attention, there will be less hassle to deal with.
