Gas leak closes McKinley

McKinley Avenue was closed from Riverside to University avenues earlier today because of a gas leak outside of Burkhardt Building, a university police officer said.

University Police Sergeant Terrell Smith said UPD blocked the nearby intersections while evacuating the building.

The leak was started when a dump truck working outside Burkhardt backed over a gas pump.

Police were called shortly before 2 p.m., Smith said

People were not allowed to park in the Musical Instructional Building Parking Structure. Police did not allow any cars to leave the structure, either, Smith said.

McKinley Avenue and Burkhardt and were reopened shortly before 3 p.m.
