TRACK: Cardinals to compete at Mideast regionals

Five members of the Ball State University track team will be competing in the 2006 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships Friday and Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn.

Senior Jill Scully, who was recently named the Mid-American Conference Most Outstanding Outdoor Track and Field Performer and was selected to the All-MAC First Team, will compete in the 5,000-meter run. She recorded her best time of the season in the MAC Championships with a mark of 16:40.16.

Juniors Amanda Barnhart and Tamelca Lewis will compete in the long jump and triple jump, respectively. Barnhart recorded her personal best in the MAC Championships as well, with a jump of 20-1 3/4. Lewis recorded her best jump in Knoxville at the Searay Relays with a mark of 41-10 1/2.

Sophomore Voni Ferguson will compete in the 400-meter dash, while fellow sophomore Amber Williams will compete in the 100-meter hurdles. Ferguson's time of 53.68 seconds in the 400 at the MAC Championships was not only a personal best but also a Ball State school record. Williams recorded her best 100 hurdles time at the MAC Championships as well with a time of 13.77 seconds.

The event begins at 11 a.m. Friday.
