The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will have a tough weekend of competition, where a home pool advantage may be the deciding factor.
"We swim well on the road, but we also swim well in our own pool," co-coach Bob Thomas said. "Other teams tend to struggle a little bit in our pool and hopefully that'll be the case on Friday."
The women's team (5-3) will compete in a double-header as they face the Toledo Rockets (5-3-1) in the second-to-last Mid-American Conference meet of the regular season tonight at 6 p.m.
This will be the first time since the MAC Championships last year that the Cardinals will be swimming against the Rockets.
Co-coach Laura Seibold-Caudill says her swimmers and divers are excited about the meet.
"We look at this meet to be important because it's a conference meet, but we aren't doing anything we haven't done all season," Seibold-Caudill said.
While the Cardinals are first focused on tonight's matchup, the women and men will also be hosting a meet on Saturday against Butler University.
"We'll have some good races with them, but we have more depth on both the guys and girls side," Thomas said. "I feel that as long as our swimmers take it seriously, we should be successful."
Saturday will also be the team's Senior Day in which 14 seniors will be honored.
Together, the senior men and women had a combined semester grade point average of 3.38, which is one of the best average's for a senior class, according to Seibold-Caudill.
As a team, the senior women have a four-year record of 36-16 overall with four meets left this season, while the men have a record of 23-13 with three meets left in the season.
Saturday's meet will also feature shorter races in the stroke events which will test the strengths and weaknesses of the sprinter swimmers.
"We want them to swim fast, and this is the best way to do it, in short races." Thomas said.
