Former Ball State University student Joshua Springer, 19, 2512 E. 27th St. was arrested on charges of 10 counts of burglary for breaking into several rooms in Studebaker West Complex.
Gene Burton, director of the Department of Public Safety, said it had been years since a theft of this magnitude had occurred in a residence hall. The detectives are still investigating, he said.
Catherine Bickel, associate director of Housing and Residence Life, said Springer was signed in by one of the residents as a guest. Springer entered rooms through unlocked doors while the residents were sleeping, she said. In order to feel safe, Bickel said students should lock doors when going to bed at night.
