Dear Editor,
Your Tuesday editorial on the Major Moves initiative contained so many factual and logical errors it's hard to know where to begin.-áLook it up on the map. How many students take the Indiana Toll Road home? In fact, a huge number of Indiana residents have never taken the toll road - which is easy to understand, when you look at its route.
But if they do in the coming years, they might discover something. Namely, service.-áDon't like stopping every few miles to dig into your pockets for money?-áYou don't have to.-áTechnology for automatically assessing tolls without slowing from highway speeds - with monthly payment by mail - has existed for years, just don't count on the public sector to provide it.-á
But a private sector company that needs to increase ridership to make a profit can and will do that - because it has to, in order to earn a return on its investment.
And speaking of investment, where do you think it comes from?-áDid you know more than half of long-term U.S. Department of the Treasury notes are held by foreign investors?-á
If companies from Spain or India wanted to invest in your business, would you turn them down?-áOf course not.
Neither should we keep operating a mismanaged, under-performing asset like the Indiana Toll Road when there's so many better and more important things we can do instead.
