Ball State men's tennis player Matt Baccarani was arrested Monday morning at his apartment on the charge of disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor. According to the police report, neighbors complained about loud noises coming from Baccarani's apartment. After the police asked him to lower the noise level, they were called again by the same neighbors, who reported that the noise had not subsided.
When Baccarani was issued a noise citation, he reportedly became argumentative. Baccarani said he wanted to read the papers the University Police Department wanted him to sign for the noise citation and was arrested when he persisted in his demand. Police detected alcohol on Baccarani's breath, but a Breathalyzer test was not administered. He was later released on bail.
When asked if he was going to contest the arrest, Baccarani said, "I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. I'm still figuring out what my options are."
He is not suspended from the tennis team at the present time.
Baccarani is currently 3-0 in both singles and doubles play. Baccarani and doubles partner Patrick Thompson are ranked No. 4 in the country according to the Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
