Dear Editor,
Vinnie Lopes [in his Jan. 24 column] seemed to have missed the point.
The Nest rushing the court after Saturday's victory over Bowling Green was more for morale, not celebration. Maybe he should be reminded we were winless in the conference and went through a torrid stretch of winning only two of the previous 11 games.
As an avid participant in The Nest, I feel it is our duty to support the basketball team in every way possible. This basketball team was down. They needed a win, but more importantly, they needed to know we still support them. By rushing the court, we showed the basketball team we are still there rooting for them through thick and thin. Seeing the support we still have for them might give the team some confidence and momentum going into the second half of the season.
Though we are only 1-5 in our division of the conference, we are only a few games behind the lead. Who knows, if we start winning our games, we might find ourselves back toward the top - or at least with a respectable record. If this does happen, I feel it would be easy to say Saturday was the turning point of the season.
The first thing Skip Mills did at the start of the post-game press conference was thank the fans who were still supporting the team. I'm no psychic, but I am pretty certain he did not direct his comments toward Lopes or people of the like.
Go Cards!
