I'M KIND OF A BIG DEAL: ... if Peyton Manning doesn't have to play in the cold

I wasn't aware of this, but apparently the first two opponents on the Indianapolis Colts' schedule this year were the New England Patriots and the 1985 Chicago Bears.A celebration for a 2-0 Colts start to this 2005 season is not necessary, nor is it warranted. The opponents were the Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Not exactly world beaters, but more like non-playoff teams that ranked last and 12th, respectively, in total offense in the AFC last year.Despite the fact that this Colts team does have an improved defense, there is no reason to believe that this team is any different from that of the previous seasons where they have been a great regular season team, but a very sub-par postseason squad. The first, and this shouldn't be a shock, is that they are a dome team! C'mon, anyone who is anyone knows that dome teams do not do well in the Super Bowl. In fact, there has only been three instances dome teams ever made it to the Super Bowl, twice accomplished by the St. Louis Rams and once by the Atlanta Falcons. Here is the reason: Unless the dome team has the home field advantage throughout the playoffs, they will more than likely have to play at least one playoff game outdoors. When a team becomes accustomed to playing in the comfort of not having to deal with the elements, it's a shock to go from 72 degrees to five below zero with winds and snow. The other reason can be attributed to the most proven loser on the team, Peyton Manning. Has he ever won a big game in his life? Try 0-for-Florida in his career at Tennessee (He never beat the Gators). Or a 42-17 loss to Co-National Champion Nebraska in the 1998 Orange Bowl. In NFL postseason play, he has a 3-5 record with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Although, it should be noted that nine of those touchdowns and only one interception came in two blowout wins. If you take away those games, he is 1-5 with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. The only way the Colts can possibly make a run to the Super Bowl is if they get home field advantage. That was the way the St. Louis Rams made it to the Super Bowl two times, winning once in a dome no less. While the Falcons played on the road it was at Minnesota, in the Metrodome. Also, it is pertinent that Manning plays indoors when the calendar flips over to January. The simple reason is because he doesn't throw a good spiral. For all of the passing records he holds, it is surprising he throws such a bad ball. However, he gets away with it because he plays indoors. That is the reason he can't play in tough conditions like Foxboro, because it's cold and windy and that Peyton "spiral" flutters and floats in the wind, usually falling into the hands of the other team. The Colts will most likely be playing football in Pittsburgh in late January, then playing in Myrtle Beach the next week. The thing is, there is only golf in Myrtle Beach.
