Bengals snatch former Ball State star

One day after being released by the team that drafted him, former Ball State wide receiver and rookie Dante Ridgeway was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday. Ridgeway was released by the St. Louis Rams Tuesday, along with 12 teammates as part of the first wave of roster cuts made by the Rams of the preseason.

To make room for Ridgeway’s signing, the Bengals waived offensive tackle Belton Johnson. The move also came one day after the club released former number one draft pick Peter Warrick, who spent the past five seasons as a wide receiver for the team.

Warrick was also picked up one day after his release, when he signed a one-year deal worth $2.2 million with the Seattle Seahawks.

Ridgeway joined a team that already has a large wide receiver group for the preseason. He became the ninth wide receiver on the roster. Ridgeway was drafted in the sixth-round by the Rams in April. He competed in two preseason games and only compiled one catch for 19 yards.
