Thanks to a new internship project, audiences no longer have to worry about sneaking food into Muncie's live theatrical performances.
The Ball State University Department of Theatre and Dance, the Miller College of Business and the Cornerstone Center for the Arts, Downtown Development have created a partnership to form the Downtown Dinner Theatre Project.
The Business Fellows program at Ball State provided the funding for 14 internships for students from the Department of Theatre and Dance and the Miller College of Business to participate in the program as members of the cast and production team. Additional funding for salaries, rehearsal space and technical equipment was provided by the College of Fine Arts.
Students and faculty are involved in this week's musical revue at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts, which is the first production of the new dinner-theater program.
The performance group started rehearsing for this summer's show the last Monday in May, giving the performers three full weeks of six-hour-a-day practices to prepare for the show.
The music in the show ranges from country western and "honkey-tonk" to Chuck Berry and some early Elvis, Harold Mortimer, associate professor of theater at Ball State, said.
This year's production is a a pilot of the entire program. If the show is successful, there will be three shows a year at various restaurants in Muncie.
