BSU named 2005 TV School of the Year

The Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) named Ball State University the "2005 TV School of the Year" in an annual contest held by the organization.

Ball State defeated 14 other members of IASB to win the top honor, and Ball State students won 10 individual awards.

Scott Akins and Brett Varvel placed first in the television anchor and music video categories, respectively, for the television division of the competition, and Michael Towne and Bodie Bender both placed first in the play-by-play category for the radio division of the competition.

Michael Holmes, interim dean of the College of Communication, Information and Media, attributed the success of the students to the university's comprehensive telecommunications program.

In 2004, the book "This Business of Broadcasting" listed Ball State as having one of the nation's top broadcasting programs.
