The women's track team followed its strong finish over the weekend with another honor. Junior Jill Scully, who finished 11th in the 10,000-meter race at the Mt. SAC Relays, was named the MAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week. She qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as well as shattered the school record by nearly a full minute. The team is back in action this weekend with the Anderson Invitational on Saturday.
Scully was the only Cardinal who went to California for the Mt. SAC Relays. The rest of the team ran in the Searay Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. Sophomore Amanda Barnhart took seventh in the long jump in a stacked field that also featured Olympian Grace Upshaw, current world record holder Tianna Madison of Tennessee and her NCAA championship teammate Hyleas Fountain.
Senior Ashley Gillies was 11th in the high jump while junior Kristina Hervey was 19th in the same event. Gillies also took 15th in the triple jump, which was behind sophomore Terri Abraham, who took 12th place.
Senior Helen Kirby finished 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 17th in the 3,000-meter run. The BSU relay teams finished well. The distance relay team was eighth, and the 4x100 relay finished 10th.
