TRACK AND FIELD Scully qualifies for NCAA Championships

Ball State was represented at two different meets over the weekend and finished well in each. Junior Jill Scully ran in the Mt. SAC Relays from California and finished 11th in the 10,000-meter run. The time was fast enough to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She also set a school record by breaking Kathy Kadziolla's 2001 time by nearly a minute.

The rest of the Cards competed in the Searay Relays from Knoxville. There were several high finishes in the non-team scoring meet. Sophomore Amanda Barnhart was seventh in the long jump in a competition that also featured Olympian Grace Upshaw, Tennessee's Tianna Madison, who is the world's current record holder, as well as teammate Hyleas Fountain, who won the long jump event at the 2004 NCAAs.

Senior Ashley Gillies took eleventh, and junior Kristina Hervey was 19th in the same event. Gillies was also fifteenth in the triple jump, which was just behind sophomore Terri Abraham, who finished in twelfth.

Senior Helen Kibby took twelfth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and was also 17th in the 3,000-meter race. The relay teams also placed well for the meet. The distance relay team was eighth while the 4x100 relay team finished 10th. The season continues with the Anderson Invitational on April 23.
