Project's first phase to begin

Utility work, surveying to commence McKinley road work today

Nearly 30 representatives from the Indiana Department of Transportation, Ball State University, E and B Paving Inc. and subcontractors met Monday to finalize plans and delegate responsibilities for the project.

"The work has already begun," Jim Lowe, director of facilities assessment and engineering, said. "We're going to start on as much as we can without disturbing campus too much."

The mobile office has already been moved on site, contractors are doing utility work and surveying will begin as early as today, Lowe said.

During Monday's meeting, conducted by The Department of Transportation, the group discussed documentation and paper work, talked about the chain of command and decided who would be responsible for various aspects of the project.

The representatives plan to meet on site every Thursday from now until August when the project will be completed.

"We ready to hit the ground running," Lowe said. "It sounds very encouraging, and there are a lot of people really excited about it."
