Ball State students have the opportunity to debate and to vote on issues involving tuition, regulations and university money by filling out an application for student trustee by Friday.
As a member of the Board of Trustees, the appointed student will have the same duties as any other member, including attendance at bimonthly meetings, voting privileges and filling committee positions, Kathy Spenos, Student Government Association secretary, said. Board members also receive $50 for attending meetings.
Student board members must be Indiana residents, have a minimum 2.7 grade point average, be a student for the duration of the two-year term and provide two letters of recommendation, Bales said.
Spenos said SGA formed a student committee to review the applications for the student board position. The committee, made of students from campus organizations, will interview the applicants and then rank them.
The SGA committee will submit the student applications to Gov. Mitch Daniels. Daniels decides which applicants he, or a committee, will interview before choosing which student to appoint to serve on the Board of Trustees for a two-year term, Kay Bales, SGA adviser, said.
"This position will be filled by the candidate with the ability to look at the big picture in the running of our institution and not just student-orientated issues," Spenos said in a letter for applicants.
An informational forum for the applicants is March 14 in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center room 306 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. SGA will accept applications for the student trustee position until 5 p.m. Friday, Spenos said.
