The Indiana Department of Transportation began hearing bids for the McKinley Project Wednesday. Two contractors made bids estimated around $5.5 million, James Lowe, director of facilities assessment and engineering, said.
The McKinley Project is scheduled to begin construction this summer. The project will include re-paving McKinley Avenue, adding a median and expanding the avenue around the west side of Shafer Tower.
The state department is handling the bids, because the construction is a state funded program.
However, Ball State University set requirements that it wants contractors to follow. The state will make sure the contractor meets all requirements before awarding the project.
The Indiana Department of Transportation will determine who will win the bid Friday and announce the decision to Ball State Monday morning, Lowe said.
