Senior Paul Newman was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday. Newman's win at No. 4 singles clinched Ball State's 4-3 win over Wisconsin on Sunday at home, the Cardinals' first victory over a Big Ten opponent.
Newman outlasted the Badgers' Elliot Bisnow 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in the decisive match. Earlier in the day, Newman had teamed with classmate Klint Knable for a 9-8 (5) win at No. 3 doubles.
Ball State is now 3-3 on the season.
