MEn'S BASKETBALL Trammell hits eight 3-pointer, amasses 38 points

Dennis Trammell turned 23 years old Sunday, but, despite a valiant effort, he could not lead Ball State to its 10th home victory of the season.

Trammell had a career day as he led Ball State with a career-high 38 points, nearly half of the Cardinals' 81 points. He shot down 13 of 18 field goals and 8 of 9 from beyond the arc.

"I was feeling really good at the beginning of the game, throughout the game really," he said. "It really doesn't mean anything to me because we didn't win."

Trammell's eight 3-pointers set a home court and Ball State record, and moved Trammell six treys out of the top ten all-time at Ball State, despite only playing at Ball State for two years. Trammell has 92 career 3-pointers, and LaSalle Thompson holds 10th place with 98.

Trammell's accuracy from beyond the arc moves him to second overall in career three-point percentage, only behind Emanual Cross, who was a member of Ball State's Sweet 16 team.

Trammell's 38 points were something Ball State has not seen since the days of Chris Williams, who was the last Cardinal to put up 35 points.

The Cardinals, including Trammell, played lackluster defense, and only Peyton Stovall added double-digit points in the loss.

Despite Trammell's awesome offensive performance, coach Tim Buckley wasn't giving the senior any breaks.

"He had a good game offensively," he said. "He did not have a good game defensively."

Earlier in the season, Trammell had been sited by Buckley for his terrific defense, including a game at Western Michigan where he held Ben Reed scoreless. At the time, Reed led the conference in scoring.

After the game, Trammell was left with a loss and no win on his birthday.

"It kills (my birthday)," he said. "I'm still happy; I'm happy to be 23. That's life, man."
