Dear Editor,
In response to some students wanting to know why Senate voted against hearing the Clemens slate, I feel compelled to state my reasons. The first being that there was plenty of time to fill out the standard application and collect signatures. Even if a candidate had trouble understanding election procedures, they could have received help in the SGA office. Second, if I voted to hear them speak or to suspend the bylaws, there is nothing to prevent more candidates from running. To be fair, SGA would essentially have to reopen the elections. I do not think this would be in the best interest of SGA or the students I represent.
Student participation will always be encouraged in SGA. I am sorry for the Clemens slate because I would have liked to see another slate run against Team US. If any of the members in the Clemens slate would like to run for the numerous open senate seats, I would be happy to work along side them.
