LETTER: ATM in Atrium would benefit students, visitors

Dear editor,

Recently upon one of my many trips through the Atrium, I started to smell the wonderful aromas of the congested food court. Being that I am going into my senior year, I, like many other older students, do not use a meal card plan. Thus, I grabbed for my wallet only to find that, like most of the time, it was empty. It was one of those days that hardly anyone was out and about on campus. It was bitterly cold and blowing freezing rain. The last thing anyone wants to do is get out and walk in it unless necessary. Then it dawned on me. The nearest ATM machines are at the far ends of campus. Sure, it sounds lazy but everyone can agree that when the freezing rain is blowing and the temperature is nearly negative, a short walk can feel like miles. So I can't help but ask why there is no money machine in the biggest, busiest, main food court/campus bookstore in the heart of BSU. Call me crazy, but one would think that whatever banking institution placed an ATM in the AJ building would flounder with business whether it be buying a meal, snacks, books or that warm cup of cappuccino near Barnes and Noble. This especially would be useful for any kind of visitor in the Atrium during miserable outdoor weather. I recall that this issue had been brought up last year to the student government, but I haven't heard any progress since. So, Mr. Tietz, how about it? Shall we be forced to walk the cold long walks or might we see a better convenience for us?
